The 2017-18 round of the Biomimicry Global Design Challenge is in full swing, with teams from all over the globe working hard to prepare their submissions.

There are a few changes for this year’s Challenge that we wanted to highlight.

The biggest change is that the Challenge is now limited to university students and professionals. We created a separate Youth Design Challenge for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) so that younger students could compete with their peers. Currently, we are piloting the Youth Design Challenge with a small group of educators, with a goal of launching a full Challenge in the fall of 2018. If you are interested in learning more or participating in the Fall 2018 Youth Design Challenge, please sign up here.

In addition, we now have one category for applicants, rather than separate “student” and “open” categories. University student teams can still apply and be eligible for student-specific prizes, but everyone will be evaluated in the same category and will be eligible to compete for a spot in the 2018-19 Biomimicry Launchpad.

We are thrilled at how many talented solution-seekers are engaged in this year's Challenge and are eager to see your final submissions. Remember, the deadline is May 1, 2018, so there's still three months to perfect your nature-inspired design. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to us at challenge(at)biomimicry.org.
